36 Kvanne-Rykkjem: different timetable in the period 9.-29. May

In the period 9.-29. May 2022, when the ferry quays on the Kvanne-Rykkjem connection are rebuilt for electric ferries, there will be a different timetable. Some bus routes are also affected by the construction work.

The work will take place in the evening and at night. This means that the ferry departures at night are canceled.

If the work of electrifying the connection is completed earlier than planned, the ferries will return to the ordinary timetable again before 29 May.

Affects two bus departures

The work with the ferry quays at Kvanne-Rykkjem also affects two departures by bus:

  • Route 902 departing from Skei in Surnadal at 22.10 will be canceled
  • Route 902 departing from Sunndalsøra at 22.35 will be canceled

Note! Route 902 departing from Molde at 21.00 will go as usual to Sunndalsøra.

Seven connections electrified

When Kvanne-Rykkjem is electrified, seven of the 21 ferry connections which FRAM is responsible for in Møre og Romsdal will be on electric operation.

Jesper Wiig, Operations Section Manager in FRAM, says we probably have to reckon with some run-in problems when switching to new technology. The experience from the other connections that have been electrified is that in connection with the installation and adaptation of charging infrastructure on vessels and land, there will be some canceled departures.

- But the experience is also that as soon as it is in place, the regularity will be as good with electric as with diesel-powered ferries, says Wiig.

Largest emission

The County Council has adopted a goal of a 55 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. If the goal is to be achieved, major environmental measures must be taken, especially within the public transport and ferry services, which contribute with the largest greenhouse gas emissions from the County Authority as an organization.

Electrification of ferry connections significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and is the largest single measure in Møre and Romsdal County Authority.
