From 1st November it will be simpler and often cheaper to travel with public transport in Møre og Romsdal

From 1st November 2023 Møre and Romsdal county will be divided into 7 zones for public transport with bus instead of more than 500. This will make the zones easier to relate to and will mean that many trips with public buses will be cheaper.

These are the new zones

There will be no changes to the ticket prices for express boats.

Single tickets will be valid for the or those zones they have been purchased for

If you travel with a single ticket, you pay for the or those zones you will travel through on your trip.

If you travel in one zone, you can go make a return ticket on the same zone, provided the validity time for the ticket has not been expired.

If you travel from one zone to another you cannot make a return trip using the same ticket. In this case, the ticket is only valid for the distance you have chosen, one way. When you arrive at the zone where you will end the trip you can change to another bus and continue your trip in the same zone, provided the validity time for the ticket has not expired.

A single ticket is valid for entering the bus for one hour and 30 minutes for one zone. A ticket for two zones is valid for two hours and 30 minutes. A ticket for three zones or more is valid at least three hours and 30 minutes.

If the validity time has expired before you can continue your trip in the last zone you must buy a new ticket for the next distance.

All period tickets will be zone based

From 1st November all period tickets will be zone based. This means that the predefines area tickets that are available in the old zone structure no longer will be available. (This applies to area tickets for Ålesund, Giske, Sula, Kristiansund/Frei, Hjelset/Kleive, Elnesvågen-Molde, Ørsta/Volda and Sykkylven.)

When you want to purchase a zone-based period ticket you can choose a bus stop to travel from that is located in the zone you want to travel from and a to bus stop that is located in the zone you want to travel to. (This can be within the same zone.)

The period ticket is not limited to trips to and from these exact bus stops. You can travel to or from all bus stops that are located in the zone or zones that the bus stops you enter are located in.

Maximum price for period ticket 30 days

There will be a maximum price for a 30-days period ticket. The maximum price corresponds to the price of a period ticket for three zones. The maximum price for a 30-days period ticket for bus for an adult is NOK 1560.

Note that for youths and student often will be cheapest to buy a county ticket.

County tickets FRAM Ung, FRAM Student and FRAM Vaksen

FRAM Ung, FRAM Student and FRAM Vaksen (FRAM adult) is what we call county tickets. All these tickets include free travel with bus and express boat in the whole of Møre and Romsdal county.

FRAM Vaksen just for bus will no longer be available. It has been replace by ordinary zone based period tickets for bus.

Ferry travel is free if you do not bring your own vehicle.

County tickets on Kystekspressen express boat between Kristiansund and Trondheim

The Kystekspressen express boat between Kristiansund and Trondheim is operated by AtB and have a different set of rules than FRAM’s express boats. FRAM Ung can be used on the Kystekspressen between Kristiansund and Kjørsvikbugen.

On this express boat it is not possible to validate the FRAM Ung ticket on a validator. Therefore, if you plan to travel on this express boat, you must keep the receipt for the purchase of the FRAM Ung ticket. The receipt will show the validity period. Show the receipt together with the FRAM Ung ticket to the personnel on board.

FRAM Student and FRAM Vaksen cannot be used on Kystekspressen.

Not possible to buy period tickets in the old FRAM app from 1st November

A new FRAM app will be launched shortly and from 1st November it will not be possible to purchase period tickets in the old FRAM app.

Period tickets will be available in the new online shop, at traffic terminals, on board the buses and in the new FRAM app.

On board fee for adults, students and people in initial military service

If you purchase a single ticket on board and pay with a debit/credit card or cash, there will still be an on-board fee of NOK 20 for adults and NOK 10 for students and persons in initial military service. There is no on-board fee for children or concessionary travellers (honnør).

The fee is intended to serve as an incentive to get as many people as possible to buy a ticket before entering the bus, and we assume that most adults are able to do this. Ticketing on board takes time and means that the bus takes longer to complete the route. Efficient driving time is very important both in terms of customer satisfaction and to make the bus as competitive as possible compared to private cars.

Trips into and out of Trøndelag

For trips into and out of Trøndelag, FRAM uses the already defines zones. There will be a price addition for each zone in Trøndelag you travel through.

For departures with FRAM line 351 Volda-Nordfjordeid, FRAM line 250 Ålesund-Stryn and Skyss line 110, FRAM prices apply all the way. It is possible to buy a period ticket from FRAM that apply to these distance.

The county tickets FRAM Ung, FRAM Student and FRAM Vaksen only apply within Møre and Romsdal and not for trips into or out of Vestland. Passengers with county tickets must buy an additional ticket for trips into or out of Vestland.

FRAM’s tickets are not valid on Vy’s commercial services between Møre and Romsdal and Vestland. For these buses, passengers must buy tickets from Vy. There is one exception: on line Vy430 from Ålesund at 11.00 towards Bergen and from Bergen 08.00 towards Ålesund, tickets at FRAM prices can be purchased for the distance Ålesund-Nordfjordeid. On this distance, period tickets from FRAM can be used, provided they are valid for the applicable area.
